Amazon Holiday Hiring 2026: About 4,500 Seattle-Area Jobs, and Health Care for Seasonal Workers

SEATTLE, WA — Amazon is gearing up for the holidays in its own backyard. The Seattle-based company announced Tuesday that it plans to hire more than 300,000 seasonal, part-time and full-time workers across its U.S. operations network, and local reporting by KOMO News and KIRO 7 puts about 7,000 of those jobs in Washington, including roughly 4,500 in the Seattle-Tacoma-Bellevue area.

Amazon holiday hiring in Seattle is open now, with new roles posted every week through December, and this year seasonal workers get a shot at health care for the first time.

💼 What Amazon Announced, and What It Means Here

The national number is up from the 250,000 holiday hires Amazon targeted last year. The jobs sit in its core operations network, the buildings that sort and move packages, not the corporate offices in South Lake Union. Around Puget Sound that network reaches well past the city limits, so your best opening may be in the Kent Valley or Pierce County.

Amazon has not published a facility breakdown of the local jobs or announced an in-person Seattle hiring event. Applications run online through its local jobs page, and the full announcement is on Amazon's press center.

💵 What It Pays, and Why Your Address Matters

Amazon says full-time operations employees start at $20 an hour or more nationally, averaging close to $24. Seasonal workers average about $20.

In this metro, that $20 national floor is not the whole story. Washington's statewide minimum is $17.13 this year, but Seattle's is $21.30 for every employer, and several neighboring cities set their own, higher minimums for large employers. Where the work is performed decides which floor applies, not where you live and not where Amazon is headquartered. Our 2027 Seattle-area minimum wage breakdown shows how those city lines shift again on January 1.

🛡️ The New Part: Health Care for Seasonal Workers

Starting January 1, 2027, seasonal employees who work at least 30 hours a week become eligible for health care. If you are hired before New Year's, coverage can start on January 1. If you are hired on or after that date, it starts on your first day. Amazon says plans start at $5 a week with $5 copays.

Amazon also lists a free Prime membership, Whole Foods discounts and up to $5,250 a year in prepaid tuition for eligible employees. Seasonal and full-time benefits differ, so check the specific posting.

📋 How to Get Hired Before the Rush

Postings go up weekly, and Amazon warns that seasonal roles can fill quickly, so timing beats polish. Text NEWJOB to 31432 for alerts and be honest about the commute: a night shift in Kent is a different job from Shoreline than from Auburn. Amazon says many seasonal hires can move into permanent roles, so treat it as an audition if you want to stay.

🔎 Where to Aim This Holiday Season

Amazon is the biggest seasonal hirer in town, not the only one. Carriers, warehouses and retailers across King, Pierce and Snohomish counties are staffing up too, so compare shifts and drive times.
